Our client based in Guildford is looking for a Linux System Engineer to join their team.

Responsible for Administration of the Linux infrastructure, development platforms and the provision of 3rd line support to the Service Desk.
Key Purpose of Job
• To provide technical expertise in the day to day administration.
• Implementation, and maintenance of the IT Infrastructure as designated by the Infrastructure Team Leader.
• Build, design and automate a secure Linux environment.
• Assist with system architecture and securing the infrastructure.
• General admin duties i.e. server admin, network admin, security management.
• Assist in designing and automating the build of a secure Linux estate.
• Monitor and troubleshoot server and network related issues.
• Collaborate with infrastructure team, and business systems on development.
• Automate Linux server builds and environment setups with Kickstart.
• Automate security patching and OS upgrades in Linux estate.
• Monitor, prevent and troubleshoot security related issues.
• Assist strategic vision with solutions, such as Docker, Kubernetes, Etcd, Flannel and Cockpit.
• Review systems architecture and security, reviewing new technologies and recommending improvements.
• Supporting infrastructure services through design and project briefs.
• Implementing new infrastructure services through project schedules and
• change management.
• Provision of 3rd line services within the Service Desk resolving escalated.
• incidents in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with the Helpdesk
• SLA’s.
• Providing technical expertise on all IT related matters assisting the Infrastructure Team Leader where necessary

• Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience required.
• Experience in RedHat/CentOS Linux operations and automation.
• Extensive scripting and automation experience: Bash and Python.
• Experience of RedHat based Linux systems; CentOS 7 Atomic and CentOS 6 & 7 non-Atomic.
• Experience of automating Linux server builds and environment setups using Anaconda PyKickstart.
• Experience of Active Directory integration using SSSD and Kerberos.
• Experience of using Linux with Active Directory integrated NFS/CIFS/SMB shares.
• Experience of using Linux technologies such as SELinux and iptables.
• Experience of Docker, Kubernetes, Etcd, Flannel and Cockpit.
• Experience of Altair’s PBS queuing system.
• Knowledge of networking, i.e. TCP/IP, DNS, VLANs and subnets.
• Software & hardware RAID; experience of both physical and virtual machines.
• Monitoring experience with Splunk.
• Security – familiar with LDAP, AD and capturing failures.
• Storage technologies – NAS & iSCSI.
• Good Hardware and Software support knowledge.
• Competent troubleshooting skills.
• Knowledge of VMware vSphere.
• Team player with good communication skills.
• Ability to work under own initiative and in a busy environment.
